Blue Moon - ABV: 5.4%
I have two things to immediately account for...
Firstly, I don't normally post beer blogs on a Sunday as I have to work in the morning, and secondly, I don't normally blog about beers other than ones from small(ish) craft breweries from the UK. Today though, I'll make exceptions to both of these (albeit loose) rules... No reason ;-)
Blue Moon is an unfiltered Belgian style wheat beer brewed with oats and traditionally spiced with orange peel and coriander by the Blue Moon Brewing Company (or more accurately, Molson Coors, one if the largest brewers in the world).
It has a great deal of natural effervescence which tingles the tongue and the use of oats probably helps make this an exceptionally smooth brew.
I have mixed feelings about this beer though. First and foremost it's a nicely made, smooth wheat beer with a lovely flavour. However, it's made in a "craft" style by one of the largest brewing conglomerates in the world, which irks me somewhat.
So, do I ignore this beer and consider it yet another mass produced load of tosh, or do I applaud Molson Coors for using their sheer size to bring a traditionally styled Belgian wheat beer brewed in a craft style to the masses, potentially increasing the public's knowledge of this type of beer and fuelling their wish to try more craft beers from smaller, local breweries? A difficult one...
Either way, I like Blue Moon and regardless of your own opinion regarding Molson Coors, I can recommend it heartily.
Verdict: 3.5/5
p.s. Congratulations to Manchester City for winning the premiership.!!
