Armageddon is a bottle conditioned amber coloured ale from Howard Town Brewery in Glossop, just up the road from where I'm currently sat, and (I presume) is named after the close passing of asteroid 2012DA14 tonight.
Many thanks to Praze Fine Foods (@prazefinefoods) on Glossop High Street for the bottle...
This is almost 5000 miles closer to us than the geosynchronous satellites that orbit the Earth. However, there is no risk of an impact.
Its closest approach will be 7:25pm GMT, although it will be over Asia at that time and not visible from the UK until later in the evening.
The asteroid orbits the Sun every 368 days and will pass the Earth at 17,450 miles per hour, appearing from "under" the Earth and returning back toward the Sun from "above".
If you're in the UK, and you have clear skies this evening, this is where and when you need to look (to the North, through the handle of The Plough)...
It's quite a fresh ale on the nose too, with plenty of fruity, hoppy notes.
Its flavour is also quite fresh, with a nice malt/hop balance to create a beer that's very drinkable. I'd love to try this as a draught ale, but I've a feeling it may be a one-off, especially considering the 'best before' info on the bottle.!!
