Beavertown Dark Saison - ABV: 5.1%
Beavertown Brewery was set up in December 2011 by Logan Plant and Byron Knight in the kitchen of 'Duke's Brew and Que' in De Beauvoir, Hackney, London. In March of 2013 they moved into their new brew site at Fish Island in London.
This Dark Saison is one of Beavertown’s Experimental Series, made with dark malts and Saison yeast to give a lovely, spicy flavour.
The aroma however is pretty nondescript and doesn't really hit me with bags of sour dough in the way a Saison normally would.
It pours well though, with great, light effervescence and a lovely thick fluffy head.
Sadly, that's about it...
The lovely dark malts I was expecting display only small amounts of chocolate and toffee and the big hit of hops to give a nice dry finish was almost completely missing.
A Saison tends to be nice and spicy, and in that respect this hits the spot. Unfortunately it's the only spot that this (admittedly experimental) beer hits.
Close, but not good enough...
Verdict: 2/5
