Govinda - ABV: 6.8%
Govinda is a strong IPA created by Cheshire Brewhouse in Congleton. It's brewed in homage to the highly hopped pale ales that were shipped to India to slake the thirsts of the English Raj, hence the IPA (India Pale Ale) name.
Using a recipe dating back to the 1800's, it's brewed using only the finest pale malt and loads of eastern Kent Golding hops.
From the bottle, Govinda pours really well, with a good, thick, long lasting head, average effervescence and only a little sediment.
Initial flavour is pure, full flavoured IPA with bags of citrusy flavours, but a real hop-bomb aftertaste... A long dryness with a hint of spiciness.
At 6.8% it's hardly a session ale, but as an occasional quencher, it's lovely and highly recommended.
Verdict: 4/5
