Pale Ale Simcoe + - ABV: 5.6%
Simcoe + is an American style pale ale from Kernel brewery in London.
The rear of the bottle's label says Simcoe + Motueka, Topaz and Centennial. Kernel usually use all the hop names on the front of the bottle, so I don't know why the name is 'Simcoe +'. I can only presume that Simcoe is the dominant variety...
Simcoe + is a bottle conditioned pale ale which pours a nice golden-amber colour with fine (though very little) sediment and light carbonation. It produces quite a large creamy white head that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a thick, long lasting surface layer.
The aroma is of fruity hops with hints of grapes, melon and citrus, complimented by sweet malt and faint caramel - lovely fresh stuff.
The flavour is much the same, with fruity aromatic hops with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of grape, melon, grapefruit, citrus and mild caramel. Really refreshing.
Another great pale ale from Kernel, with a nice hoppy aroma and flavour, while the aftertaste bitterness packs a punch. Could do with being a tad more carbonated, but this is a minor note.
Big flavour, big character, refreshing and well worth seeking out...
Verdict: 4/5
